Tips for Test Driving

When it's time to buy a new car you want to make sure that you not only get a good deal on it, but that you get one that is well suited for your needs. Test-driving a car before you buy helps give you a more precise idea of how the car performs while out on the road. You should only schedule a test drive after you've done a good amount of research and found a car or two that you think is right for you. Here are some tips on how to test-drive a car:

  • Make a list of the cars that interest you then come up with a list of about two or three cars that you want to drive. Try to schedule the test drives back-to-back in order to provide a better comparison.
  • Make an appointment. It saves time.
  • Before you drive check out the exterior of the car. Does the color look good?
  • Once seated in the car. Go over a few things. Were you able to get in easily? Is there enough room? How is the visibility?
  • During the drive take note of how the car accelerates and brakes. Is the cabin noisy?

If you're not ready to buy at the end of your drive don't worry. You may need some time at home to go over your notes and make a decision. Get the salespersons card and give them a call once you've made up your mind.
