Teen Driving Tips

Getting a driver's license is one of the most exciting things in a teen's life. But before you hand over those keys there are some things you need to go over with your teen. By practicing safe driving techniques, your teen can help keep themselves and their passengers safe on the road. Here are some tips to keep in mind when talking with your teen:

  • Turn off your cell phone. This makes it easier to stay off of their cell phone altogether. Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents.
  • Obey the speed limit. Speeding is a major cause of fatal teen accidents. Follow the posted signs and drive carefully.
  • Practice defensive driving. Be aware of what's going on in traffic around you and stay at least one car length behind the car in front of you.
  • Use the headlights. Most cars now have daytime running headlights, if not, your teen should turn them on when driving. Headlights help with visibility.
