What to Put in Your Car's Winter Emergency Kit

Getting stranded on the side of the road is annoying but it can very dangerous during the winter months. Cold weather can increase the risk of injury if you're stuck on the side of the road for an extended amount of time if you aren't properly prepared. There are things you should keep in your car, particularly in the winter months, to help you survive. These things include:

  • Some warm blankets or a sleeping bag.
  • A first-aid kit with things like Band-Aids, gauze, scissors, and antiseptic wipes.
  • An extra set of warm clothes in case the ones you're wearing get wet.
  • Flares and/or reflective triangles to alert others drivers.
  • A flashlight with new batteries to use at night to make minor repairs.
  • Some sand or kitty litter to add traction if your car is stuck in the snow or ice.
  • A portable charger that is fully charges.
  • Jumper cables in case you need to jump start your battery.
